We will have breakfast in The Attic to start the day and get to know each other!

After breakfast, we’ll walk to the House of Prayer where we will have a time of worship to set our eyes and hearts on Jesus and simply dedicate the day to Him.

Discovering and Expanding Your Creative Language - Cathy Feeman

Following a time of beholding and receiving from our Creator, this session will transition into listening and responding to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Art forms are powerful modes of communication. An encourager by nature, Cathy will lead us in a hands-on exploration to mine fresh creative expression; digging deeper wells to break out of familiar, well-worn paths, finding and discovering our artistic vocabularies as we co-create with the Holy Spirit. During the (FUN!) session, each participant will create a folded pocket-sized journal for creative art exploration to add to throughout the day’s sessions and beyond!

There are several lunch options around East Lansing. Take this time to explore the Downtown area, ask questions to our session leaders, make new friends, and eat good food!

Session One
Expressive Color Skills - Cathy Feeman

Visual Art is a visual language, and color is an essential part of its vocabulary. Artists can face frustration in executing an idea they “see” when, very often, the problem is NOT in their idea, but simply a skill they have not yet learned to help convey it! 

This hands-on session for all levels will launch you into greater expression and freedom in your art-making as we explore the language and interaction of color, how to use it more effectively, and the practical principles of mixing any color! Although this session will use paint as our medium, the same principles apply to any visual art form (including photography, graphic design, sculpture, textiles, etc.)

Session Two
The Hero’s Journey - Lilly Boyer

Storytelling is as old as time itself. The main way God chose to communicate with His people is through a book of stories. How we get to know each other is by listening to each others’ stories. And what do so many of us look to for entertainment? Stories. Our brains are simply hardwired for them. 

In this session, we will walk through a time-tested storytelling structure called The Hero’s Journey, a basic outline of events most main characters encounter. Seriously, from Homer’s The Odyssey to that Tom Cruise blockbuster you just binged watch, you’ll find similarities in both adventures.

My prayer is that this exploration of storytelling is a helpful tool for you to understand why you relate to certain stories and creatively engage in your own!

Emotion Mapping - Lilly Boyer

Oftentimes our bodies and hearts know something before we do. It can be all consuming and confusing at the same time. Art & creativity are highly emotive and therefore highly conducive in helping you identify & name an emotion.

In this session we will look at what it’s like to find freedom through art & creativity and utilizing our specific artistic expressions.

Songwriting
Led by Leah Ureche

Together we will explore the tools and practical steps in crafting lyrics and melody, and discover the art of emotional honesty through the language of music.

Session Two
Prophesying over Others through Art - Cierra Nichols

Through this unique workshop, we will discover the beauty of prophesying with art.

Prophecy, at its core, is hearing from God and relaying what we hear. We can do that with or without words through art! During our time together, we will have a quick, interactive lesson to learn the basics in illustration and visual storytelling, then meditate & pray before ending with extended time to work with a medium of your choice!

After our final sessions, we will head back from the House of Prayer for a catered dinner in The Attic.

We will wrap up the day fixing our eyes and hearts on Jesus again, dedicating the day’s fellowship and art back to Him!
